Assessments

Fast, supportive OT Driving Assessments for learners and returning drivers

Helping people with disabilities move toward safe, confident, and independent driving — with timely assessments, strong instructor partnerships, and expert guidance every step of the way.

NDIS

Driving Assessments
Driving is an important part of independence and community participation. At Easy Living Occupational Therapy, our team of three qualified OT Driver Assessors are here to support both:

Novice drivers who hold a Learner’s Permit and want to progress toward their P’s.

Adults returning to driving after injury, illness, medical changes, or a referral from VicRoads.

We know that an OT Driving Assessment can feel stressful and overwhelming. Our team takes the time to guide you through each step, making the process as clear, supportive, and straightforward as possible.

Our Approach

For Learner Drivers
We use the Potential to Drive (PTD) framework, which helps young drivers with disabilities or learning needs progress safely toward independence. The PTD framework allows us to identify strengths, challenges, and the right supports to help you succeed.

For Adults Returning to Driving

We follow a standardised assessment process, including both a home-based (off-road) assessment and an on-road assessment in real traffic conditions. This provides a comprehensive picture of your driving capacity and supports safe return to driving.

Expertise in Vehicle Modifications
Our Director, Emma Maharaj, has extensive experience in assessing and prescribing suitable vehicle modifications for drivers with physical disabilities. This includes high-level modifications such as hand controls, electronic systems, and customised solutions. We work closely with specialist driver instructors and industry providers to ensure modifications are safe, effective, and tailored to your needs.

Strong Links with Specialist Driving Instructors
One of our greatest strengths is our close partnerships with industry-leading specialist driver instructors. These instructors have advanced training in working with people with disabilities and medical conditions, ensuring your lessons are safe, supportive, and tailored to your needs. By working side-by-side with these instructors, we can:

  • Provide consistent, evidence-based recommendations

  • Ensure modifications are trialled and implemented safely

  • Offer a seamless pathway from assessment through to lessons and licence testing

Support Every Step of the Way

From your first assessment through to rehabilitation, specialist driving lessons, and licence testing, we’re with you at every stage. Together with our trusted network of instructors, we make sure you have the right support to achieve safe, confident, and independent driving.

Timely and Supportive

We understand that driving assessments are often time-limited interventions. Our team is committed to turning around assessments and reports reasonably quickly, so that you can move forward with driving lessons or licence testing without unnecessary delays.
